Q: What is the You Hoop Organization (YHO)?

YHO is a youth basketball skill and player development program that emphasizes core values of service leadership, team spirit, commitment, discipline, and responsibility. We are more concerned with who our players become as people than what they become as athletes.

Q: What is the mission of YHO?

The mission of YHO is to serve young athletes with holistic skills training and leadership development. Using basketball specific education, we aim to positively impact and empower young lives both on and beyond the hardwood!

Q: What is YHO about?

The You Hoop Organization is purposed to use the game of basketball to develop leaders and build champions for life. Our vision for each child is much bigger than basketball. Yet, the program focus is for every young athlete to develop confidently and be challenged by the life principles learned on the court.

Q: Who are the YHO directors, coaches, and trainers?

Every YHO director, coach, and trainer is an experienced, high-level teacher of the game. Most our coaches have experience at the collegiate level and are driven with a passion for community leadership to positively impact the next generation of young athletes. All YHO staff is hired using strict criteria and must pass a background screen with USA Basketball. To learn more about our coaching staff, click here.

Q: How old do you have to be to participate in YHO programs?

YHO provides player development and skills programs for grades K - 12. Each age and stage consists of various programming and meets different age and skill requirements. Additionally, program offerings can vary seasonally and are available to both boys and girls.

Q: What "training" is offered in the YHO program?

YHO is a 'holistic' player development program. Our curriculum emphasizes skill development in addition to athletic and mental performance training. We train our players to develop their individual skill ability and knowledge of the game along with their character and leadership potential.

Q: What "club teams" are offered in the YHO program?

YHO does not offer year round club teams, which is our reason for choosing not to identify as a "competitive club" program. We are intensely focused on player and skill development, using the discipline of sport and the joy of competition to teach young athletes how to develop their leadership potential and enhance their life skills. Continue reading the FAQ to learn more about YHO spring/ summer club teams.

Q: Do you have girls club teams?

Yes. We are excited to offer seasonal girls teams throughout the spring/summer.

Q: How can I join a YHO club team?

You can join a club team by attending the mandatory two week training camp. At that time, you will be evaluated by the YHO coaching staff before being placed onto a team or into a player development program. The club team tryouts are held over a period of two weeks from mid to late March. Again, each player must be evaluated by the YHO coaching staff before being placed onto a team or into a player development program.

Q: When are YHO club team tryouts?

The YHO club teams are formed after the spring break and compete at various levels throughout the spring and summer. YHO's club team season typically starts in April, with tryouts held over a period of two weeks from mid to late March, which includes a skill evaluation, athletic and mental performance evaluation, and a game play evaluation before being rostered to a team or placed into a player development program.

Q: How competitive are YHO club teams?

Each club team will play in competitive leagues and/or tournaments suitable for their level. The goal of our program is not to win multiple AAU championships on the exposure circuit. The competitive level of each team will vary from team to team and season by season. Our intention is for every player to enhance their individual skills and knowledge of the game. Additionally, for each team to learn the instrumental values of  teamwork, responsibility, and service leadership. It's the substance of character within the team that make it successful.

Q: Will YHO club teams travel?

Most YHO club teams will not travel, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. These teams may have an opportunity to travel to another city within reasonable driving distance (2-3 hours), but will compete mostly in local events. However, high school teams will travel, occasionally, for the purpose of collegiate exposure and competition during the months of April and July. These tournaments frequently require additional expenditures beyond program costs.
